One of the largest and most intense wooden reliefs I've created so far.

I cannot describe how amazing it feels to really feel great about the work I’m creating. It’s like finally my style and mediums are all coming together to create something beautiful that I feel is a good body of work.

So thankful for this commission from someone I actually went to SCAD with πŸ’œ

One of the key ways I grow as an artist is to expe One of the key ways I grow as an artist is to experiment. I frequently hear the quote muttered in my direction, "You're a jack of all trades," and there is typically a negative connotation attached to it since the followup to that quote is "but master of none".

Did you know that's not the full quote?

I recently learned that the full quote actually is: "Jack of all trades, master of none, though offtimes better than master of one."

How dramatically different from the narrow minded opinion that to be successful you must conform to one skill that you master, rather than many skills. I think there's also something to be said about how multiple skills can actually be interconnected with one another. Doesn't writing improve the more you actually experience things? Does your drawing improve by forcing yourself to draw the things you want to avoid? Does your photography improve after learning about recreating lighting while painting?

I think the answer is yes.

So while I may never become a "master" at any one thing, I think experimenting (like I'm doing here with some freaking FUN metallic watercolors) can improve my overall abilities as an artist and a creator.

I challenge you to try something new, even if it's something small, at least once a week. You might be surprised what you can learn that will improve your desired passion.

If you want to see and hear more about Metallic watercolors head on over to my Art Youtube for the full review of 3 different metallic watercolor palettes. (Link in Bio) OR hangout with me live this Sunday morning at 10:30 AM for a live painting session with Metallics.

Labradorite is at the heart of my creativity, and Labradorite is at the heart of my creativity, and quite literally in the heart of this piece. While not a traditional stone for creativity or art it has been used as a gemstone of magic. According to the Book of Stones "it awakens in those who carry or wear it the awareness of one's innate magical powers."

This is the start of a new series. Last year I invested in a large batch of stones from the lovely jewelry designer @reflectionsbylindsay and I'm so excited to finally explores the possibilites of the relationships between stones and wood. I've been deep diving into some introspective work with the help of stones as a base for each creative project. I'm going through a huge mental overall and analysis of how I function as a human and it's impossible not to let that show through in the things that I am creating.

This piece, titled "Creativity Mandala", is a visual representation of my mind's process for creating organization out of chaos, while pulling from my own personal magic realm of imagination. This new series will be featured at Art Up Front Street's May Open Studios in the spring, it's hard not to hang the pieces in the studio just yet. BUT I can't wait to share the collection of pieces as a whole in just a few months.

I'd love to hear from you lovelies in the comments, "What does creativity mean to you?"

ALSO guys I'm actually creating art months in advance rather than the week before. This is a huge deal for breaking my procrastination cycle and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of progress. πŸ˜‚

While I love using watercolors on wood, these arcy While I love using watercolors on wood, these arcylic paint pens from @artistro.artsupplies are slowly converting me to use some acrylic on some of my upcoming work! They're so vibrant. 😍

Ages ago I did a review of Artistro verses Asani paint pens while creating rock animals and the lovely people at Artistro sent me a large set as a thank you for my review. They also informed me they're a family run small business (which I love to support when I can!). So I thought I'd take the time to really test out this large set on wood, glass, and ceramic. (examples all shown at the end of this video)

If you're interested in the full video and walk through of these three projects the link to my Youtube channel is in my bio. I also posted an honest sketchbook review yesterday that's worth taking a look if you want to see what my real, unpretty sketchbook looks like.

It's done! I think.

I don't know why this has taken me so long to put together. And for some reason it still doesn't feel "done" but it's hanging in the studio for me to live with it for a little bit. Maybe I'm just being to critical of trying something different. Working without a back to hold everything together (and relying on the frame as the structure) has been an interesting challenge.

Now that I've worked through this block I think things will come with more of a flow. More soon!

πŸŽ‰Found some missing gunpowder footage! A huge πŸŽ‰Found some missing gunpowder footage!

A huge facepalm to me!
tl;dr: It was actually not missing at all just incorrectly labeled.

Part of my work to create consistancy in my life is re-working how I handle footage. And as much as I'd love to share with you how I'm killing it the truth is it's definitely a work in progress.

I've found that not only am I hoarder or things but I'm really a hoarder of memories and digital data. I hoard things there is absolutely no reason to hoard. Sometimes that comes in handy when I need to make a video about old content that I can recycle, but a lot of times it means I have to search through all my digital data to find that one clip I'm looking for. It's time consuming and ineffective.

As an artist I want to keep a record of my progress, but do I really need 100 clips of me doing the same thing? No. I've been condensing down my timelapses into bite sized videos (usually only 5 - 10 minutes long and overlaying some voiceover about things that happened during that month and my process for each piece) and sharing them on Youtube. (New one posted today, link in bio!)

How are you storing your digital data? Do you have a system that works for you? Right now the best way I'm moving forward is that things stay on labeled SD cards until I'm ready to properly sort through them, they get transfered to my computer ONLY when I have the time to delete the bad and blurry AND correctly label and sort the footage by date and topic. Best overall footage and finished products are then backed up to a harddrive and everything else is DELETED to clear up space on my computer.

It's not perfect yet but this has been a great method for me so far. It's also helping me to sort through old full harddrives and SD cards that are complete chaos - like the card that housed this footage even though it was marked as "mexico"! πŸ™„πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
